Nampa, ID - On Saturday Night, the Ford Idaho Center opened the doors for the second season of professional indoor football.  The American West Football Conference (AWFC) kicked off the 2021 season with 2019 Undefeated Champions hosting the newly formed Oregon High Desert Storm.

After 21 months off, due to COVID, the Horsemen started the season off the same way they finished in 2019, winning!  This brings the team to 14 in a row without a defeat!  Idaho, you do have a Championship caliber team in your own backyard!

On the Horsemen’s first possession it took only 2 plays to find the endzone, as Quarterback Hayden Wright hit receiver Jaquan Blackwell on a 33 yard TD pass.  The Horsemen continued to dominate the 1st half as Wright hit multiple receivers for touchdowns. Cal McQueary (1), Justin Clarkston (1), Ryan Stokes (2), Jaquan Blackwell (1) for 5 Touchdown passes throughout the game.  The Horsemen's 2 other touchdowns came on 2 electrifying kickoff returns from Rashad Flanders. The Horsemen went into halftime with a 20 point lead 38-18 despite special team kicking woes!

The second half special team mistakes allow the Oregon High Desert to capitalize.  The Horsemen gave the Storm good starting field position on pretty much every Storm possession inside the 20 yard line throughout the game.

After multiple kick returns for TDs, The Storm started to squib kick the ball whereas Horsemen players had trouble getting control of the ball causing the Horsemen to start one possession at the 1 yard line ultimately resulting in a safety and the next squib kick resulted in a fumble at the 1 yard line allowing the Storm to score the very next down.  The Storm outscored the Horsemen in the second half due to Horsemen miscues.  The Storm had an opportunity to tie the game, but was denied that opportunity by the Horsemen swarming defense.  The score did not represent the defensive play by the Horsemen.  The field position that the Storm received from the Horsemen’s special team allowed for the easy points that were put on the board. The Horsemen held off Oregon to win their 14th consecutive game and stay undefeated.  The Horsemen are now (1-0) as the Oregon High Desert Storm starts off  with a (0-1) record
